Lawyer With Improv Background, Frustrated With Witness Refusing to “Yes And”

During cross-examination of a key witness in a murder trial, the prosecuting attorney became visibly annoyed with the witness she was questioning, when he blatantly refused to follow along with the scene she had established.

The following is a transcript of the proceedings:

Prosecutor – after you saw the defendant kill the victim, what did you do?

Witness – I didn’t see him kill anyone

(audible snickers from the audience)

Prosecutor – I JUST established that you saw the defendant kill the victim

Witness – But I didn’t see him kill anyone

(more audible giggles)

Prosecutor – I’m creating a scene grounded in reality, what are you doing ?

Witness – But its not reality, I didn’t see anything

(louder laughter from the audience)

Prosecutor – (addressing the judge) Your honor, it’s apparent that this witness would rather go for a quick laugh, than to perform a grounded scene, based on the reality I have established.

The judge threw the case out and the defendant walked free.
