Canada building wall to keep Americans from hopping border for McDonald’s jobs

With the record number of college educated Canadians, McDonald’s and other fast food restaurants in Canada have increased their minimum wage to $200 an hour, to attract new employees.

Because of the relatively high wages, Americans are moving to Canada in record numbers to get work in the fast food industry, which pays far more than even professionals are making in the United States.

April Cassidy quit her teaching job in Seattle and left her family behind to come across the border to get a job at McDonald’s

“I make enough working part time at McDonald’s in Canada that I can live here and still send enough money back home to support my family. That’s several times more than I’d make as a teacher in Seattle,” stated Cassidy

Some Canadians have reason for concern. “They are coming up here and taking our jobs,” stated Vancouver, BC resident Brian Hackmore.

Gary Kennison of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, a proponent of the wall, argues, “They aren’t all bad, but some are rapists, murderers and drug dealers. Its just not worth the risk.”

Not all Canadians feel it’s a problem. Candice Applebottom stated, “Americans are only taking jobs at McDonald’s and Taco Bell. Those are jobs that Canadians don’t want anyway.”

When asked how the wall would be paid for, the Canadian Prime Minister’s response was described as generous and compassionate, “ We are fully aware America is not in a financial position to contribute to the cost of the wall. Canada is prepared to cover the full cost.”
