PORTLAND, OR – A foreign DVD titled “Elle” was delivered from Netflix back in March, yet there it sits, unwatched, on the coffee table in the home of Matthew and Susan Humphrey.
“You just have to be in the right mood to watch that kind of movie. Usually I just want to relax and watch an action movie or dumb comedy,” said Matthew.
“I heard there is a rape scene in it, so I don’t know when I’ll be ‘in the right mood’ for that,” said Susan. “But it got really good reviews, so I’m going to force myself to watch it… someday.”
To complicate matters further, the Humphreys’ Netflix subscription only includes 1 disc at a time, so their queue is backing up with a variety of action films and dumb comedies that they are actually excited about watching.
Matthew confessed to attempting to watch the film without Susan last month, when she was working late. “I thought if I watched it, I could just send it back without Susan noticing, so I put it on in the background one night while I was going through some emails, but it was just too hard to follow with all the subtitles.”
As of press time, the Humphreys have yet to watch the DVD, but are seriously considering upgrading their Netflix plan to “2 discs at a time”.
